Cancer on the Rocks - Charity Concert: interview with organiser Rick Palin

Following his relocation to London from Cheshire, Rick Palin MD of Skyfire Promotions Ltd and Firebrand Radio has organised the first ‘Cancer on the Rocks’ event to be hosted in Southern England on 23rd and 24th November 2019 at the Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush. Last year’s special fundraising music festival, in his hometown of Nantwich, was a great success and raised over £2,500.

Based on the quality of bands and the prime location of the venue, expectations are high for a successful London event to benefit the very worthy causes of Macmillan Cancer Support and the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Andy Rawll spoke to Rick to find out more, including the impressive line-up of bands, which feature heat-crazed 70’s legends ‘Gypsy’s Kiss’, 80’s AOR darlings ‘Romeo’s Daughter’ and influential metallers ‘Weapon UK’ alongside exciting upcoming melodic rockers ‘Collateral’ and the psychedelic pop of ‘Blurred Vision’; and that’s just Saturday’s line-up.

Sunday provides a full day of entertainment with a total of nine bands, headlined by guitar legend Micky Moody (Juicy Lucy, Snafu, Whitesnake) with his partner Ali Maas and their band, alongside an impressive undercard including the feisty ‘JoanovArc’, heavy groovers ‘Piston’ and the electrifying Southern blues-rock of ‘Never the Bride’ as special guests.

At the time of the original interview, the RPJ Band was scheduled to headline Sunday. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, they are no longer joining the event, with the Moody-Maas band now taking their place with a set that will delight rock fans, including songs from their excellent 2016 album ‘Black and Chrome’. Even better, this month happens to be the 40th anniversary of Whitesnake's ‘Lovehunter’ album, so there’s a strong chance that the band’s performance that will include some of those much-loved tracks.
