Royal Society Of Marine Artists Annual Exhibition At Mall Galleries

Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibition

30 September to 10 October
Mall Galleries, London SW1

Preview Wednesday 29 September, 12 noon to 8pm

The Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) annual exhibition celebrates the sea, exploring coastal scenes, boats and ships, marine wildlife and harbours, showcasing artists working in a wide variety of styles and mediums. Moments of peace, stillness and serenity are depicted, as well as storm-tossed waves in atmospheric landscapes.

The RSMA showcases the country’s leading marine artists, and as an island nation, Britain has a proud maritime heritage with spectacular coastal scenery. The artists in the exhibition celebrate this heritage and environment through their artwork.

In this year’s collection of work, there is a noticeable increase in the depiction of people and figures – there are images of people enjoying water sports, sunset walks along the beach, children playing in the sand, and sailors navigating the seas. After the isolation that was faced by people globally throughout the pandemic, perhaps there has been a marked increase in the artists’ desire to capture moments of connection, celebrating companionship.

The exhibition really showcases the beauty of Britain’s coastline, and is a celebration of picturesque destinations that Britain has to offer – with international travel still being limited, this exhibition is proof of the beauty of the holidays available to us in Britain without having to go overseas!
